Finding The Depth Of Your Swim

Before you can start fishing you have to find the correct depth of your chosen swim,
this is known as Plumming the depth or Plumming up,
to do this set up your rod and reel and thread the line through the eyes of your Fishing rod, put your float on the line and use a float rubber to hold it in place, then tie on your hook, then you have to place the Plummet onto your hook and cast to where you wish to fish,
the Plummet is made from lead and is shaped like a bell with an eye at the top and a peice of cork glued onto the bottom,
you put the hook through the eye of the plummet and into the cork, this will stop it falling off whilst you are plumming the depth of your swim,
you then cast to your chosen spot, if you can not see your float or the float is lying on the surface you will have to make adjustments,
to do this reel in and move the float up or down the line accordingly, then recast, you repeat this until your float sits in the water at the correct depth, so that just the coloured tip of the float should be out of the water
when you have found the correct depth you replace the float rubber with split shot to hold the float in place,

How Will I Know I Have Found The Correct Depth ?

Thats the easy part,
if, when you cast, your float is lying on its side on the surface of the water you have the depth set too deep, if the float disapears out of sight you have the depth set too shallow,

see pictures below for more detail.

A. This set up is too deep.

B. This set up is too shallow.

C. This set up is perfect.

C is correct
